Wyandotte County votes trickle in; Fitzgerald, Pettey lead in Senate races
As the first results are reported from Wyandotte County, there is one candidate clearly in the lead in both the State Senate primaries.
In Senate District 5’s Republican primary, with 38 of 47 precincts reporting, Steve Fitzgerald is leading Mark Gilstrap with 63 percent of the votes, 1,921 to 1,112. But in the eight Wyandotte County precincts that have reported vote totals, voters leaned toward Gilstrap, giving him 244 of the 415 votes cast.
The district covers all of Bonner Springs and the western half of Edwardsville.
In Senate District 6’s Democratic primary, Pat Pettey leads political newcomer Mario Escobar with 79 percent of the vote, 530 votes to Escobar's 103. In Wyandotte County, 14 of 47 precincts in the district have reported votes. The district covers Edwardsville east of 102nd Street.
