Both BSHS boys, girls hoops leave Bishop Ward victorious

The Bonner Springs boys basketball team again took care of business on the road in league play Friday. The Braves (11-3, 6-2 in the Kaw Valley League) cruised to a 74-44 win at Bishop Ward (3-11, 1-7).

Brett Steuart led the Braves with 21 points and was dead-on from behind the arc, sinking four three-point shots in the game. B.J. Watson added 13 points, including back-to-back three-pointers in the second quarter.

The Braves were up by four after the first quarter, but routed Bishop War in the second, outscoring their opponents 23-8 before halftime.

Next up for the Braves will be playing host to league-leading Lansing (13-1, 8-0) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lansing is coming off a 70-54 victory against fourth-place Mill Valley on Friday.

Girls emerge in yet another close one

A 13-2 second quarter run didn't preclude the Bonner Springs girls basketball team from experiencing another close call late in the game Friday at Bishop Ward (5-8, 4-5).

The Braves improved to 14-0 after a 39-34 victory, despite being outscored in the fourth quarter.

In the opening game of a girls-boys varsity doubleheader on at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the Braves will play host to Lansing (1-11. 1-6).
