Lenten fish fries, shrimp dinners kick off Friday

Two Shawnee Catholic churches will kick off their annual Lenten Friday night dinners this week.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church’s annual series of Lenten Fish Fries starts Friday. A buffet will be served from 5-7:30 p.m. every Friday through March 30 in the church’s Multipurpose Center, 5501 Monticello Road. The cost is $7 for seniors 65 and older, $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 4 through 12 and free for children 3 and younger. The menu includes fried catfish, smoked salmon, broiled tilapia, fried shrimp, hot cross buns and other side dishes. Cheese pizza is $1 per slice.

St. Joseph Catholic Church’s Lenten Shrimp Dinners also kick off Friday, with dinners planned every Friday through March 30. The dinners are planned from 5-8 p.m. at Knights of Columbus Council 2332 Hall, 11221 Johnson Drive. Cost is $13 for adults and $6 for children or a dinner of all side dishes. Cheese pizza for kids is available for $1 per slice. Seniors get a $1 discount.
