KCKCC president hopes for new buildings
January 25, 2012
Doris Givens, president of Kansas City Kansas Community College, called for the college to physically grow in a recent address to faculty and staff.
Givens was named the fifth president of the college in July. In her address, she noted that aside from the new police academy, it has been 15 years since a new building was built on the college’s campus.
Givens said the college needed an Allied Health building and a Science, Technology Engineering and Math building, each furnished with the most up-to-date, industry standard equipment available. She also said the college should refurbish at least one existing building to put all Student Services programs in one building and so students have learner-centered spaces to comfortably gather in as they wait for classes to begin.
Givens also recommended Essential Employability Skills classes to better prepare students for the work place.
Givens’ goals for the spring semester include completing a collaborative strategic plan for the college; bringing in an expert to assess the current organizational structure; and advertising KCKCC programs and services locally and nationally.
