10 Years Ago - July 18, 2002

The Basehor-Linwood School District announced plans for a bond referendum due to increased expected enrollment. Cal Carmack was superintendent of schools.

Edwardsville planned to reduce the mill levy from 46 to 43 mills for 2003.

Area teachers Anna Wiley, Alfred McDonnell and Karen Dare were among 40 educators to spend the summer teaching in China.

Margaret Stephens was installed as Kansas Fraternal Order of Eagles auxiliary state president.

25 Years Ago - July 16, 1987

Dan Quick opened a new barbecue restaurant in Edwardsville.

Mayor Reece Kuhn, Bonner Springs; Mayor Don Harbour, Edwardsville and Mayor Arlene Pritchard, Linwood; took part in the dedication of the railroad depot at the Agriculture Hall of Fame. The facility was donated by Jim Kreider.

The Basehor-Linwood Board of Education rescinded earlier action concerning the consolidation of Basehor High School and Linwood High School. During the meeting Joe Nick was elected board president.

50 Years Ago - July 20-23, 1962

Ed Arn, Republican candidate for the U. S House of Representatives was campaigning in Bonner Springs. He was shown in a photo shaking hands with Albert Rogers.

William Vitt and Ed Stehno, teachers at Bonner Springs Rural High School, spend their summer building a new home.

Bonner Springs’ population was 3,921. Edwardsville’s population totaled 489.

The Basehor Baptist Women’s Missionary Society held a special Sunday afternoon tea to honor Marcia Codworth, who was serving in Nicaragua.

100 Years Ago - July 18, 1912

A Bonner Springs man was killed when he fell into the fly wheel in the engine room of the cement plant.

Sixty candidates had filed for township, county and state offices in Wyandotte County.

Special preaching services were announced for the Edwardsville Christian Church.

L. G. Frisbie announced a bumper wheat crop that averaged 28.5 bushels per acre. The yield was the best to be reported in the county.
