Roadwork begins soon on Bonner streets

The city of Bonner Springs is about to begin work on its 2012 street maintenance program, and that means some road closures along the way.

The following roadways were selected for improvements this year:

• Kansas Avenue, 142nd Street to 138th Street

• Kansas Avenue, Nettleton Avenue to 122nd Street

• Metropolitan Avenue, 138th Street to County Line

• Warner Avenue, Front Street to Spring Street

• Spring Street, Warner Avenue to Cornell Avenue

During construction, these roads will be closed to local traffic only, and the city asks that motorists used alternate routes if possible.

The street improvements will include isolated curb replacement and/or a process called recycle-in-place, which improves the driving surface as well as the roadbed. The contractors will notify the property owners along these streets prior to construction, and the city asks that other arrangements be made for any vehicles parked along the street while the roadway improvements are made.

Up-to-date road closures will be listed on the city’s website, bonnersprings.org.

Matt Beets, city project manager, said that construction may interrupt access to driveways for brief periods of time.

“We will make every attempt to limit this to a minimum amount of time, however, some things just can’t be prevented,” he said.
