The new building required as part of the city’s agreement for the redevelopment of the Bonner Springs Plaza, including Nuts and Bolts Truevalue Hardware, is closer to being constructed.
The Bonner Springs Planning Commission on Tuesday is set to consider a final site and landscape plan for the proposed 5,000 square foot retail strip center at 630 S. 130th St., on the southwest corner of Kansas Avenue and Kansas Highway 7.
In the city’s Community Improvement District agreement, allowing for an increased sales tax within the center to help fund its redevelopment, the city had at first required that a restaurant be built on the “pad site” just south of McDonald’s by Jan. 24. But the city agreed in mid-January to extend that deadline for the developer by nine months, citing a slow economy for the delay.
At the time of the development agreement extension, Developer David Christie told the city that the Mr. Goodcents, currently located in the strip building to the west, would move into the new building to accommodate a drive-thru window.
The owner of the Mr. Goodcents location would fill his current location with a Papa Keno’s Pizza restaurant, which he also will own.
Christie also told the city that Great Clips had signed an agreement to occupy a space in the new building, and he had entered negotiations with another potential tenant for the remaining 2,000 feet. Information submitted to the Planning Commission did not indicate who would be the final tenant.
If the commission approves the above items, the developer could then submit a building permit.
