Bonner garden club awarded at state convention

May 8, 2015

The Bonner Springs Garden Club attended the Kansas Associated Garden Clubs' 2015 convention Friday and Saturday in Lawrence, earning several awards.

For their 2014 activities, the club received the Yearbook Trophy for the highest-scoring yearbook in the state, the Dorothy Rude Silver Tray for the best holiday flower show, a KAGC ribbon for the club's National Garden Week activities and the William Allen White Trophy for the highest number of club rating award points in the state.

The club decided to forego its annual flower show in 2015, its 55th year, to focus its efforts on a membership drive. It already has added five members this year to total 23.

The club will have its next meeting at 1 p.m. May 19 at the Bonner Springs City Library. The meeting will include a trip to Stephen's Orchard and Apiary for a presentation on Beekeeping 101.
