Bonner Police to mark Police Memorial Week with ceremony
In honor of National Police Memorial Week this week, the Bonner Springs Police Department will hold its annual police memorial ceremony at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kelly Murphy Memorial Park, 129 Elm St., Bonner Springs.
The public is invited to attend the memorial service to honor the two Bonner Springs police officers who were killed in the line of duty in the city's history.
National Police week began in 1962, when President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. The week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. Nationwide, 273 law enforcement heroes gave their lives in service to others in 2015.
