- Pet overpopulation
- August 14, 2008
- Across the United States, animal shelters are filled with millions of cats, dogs, kittens and puppies in need of permanent homes. These are beautiful, healthy animals that have been cast away by people who were not willing to make a lifelong commitment and take responsibility for making sure their pets don’t add to the pet overpopulation burden.
- Autism confusion
- August 14, 2008
- Since I’ve actually had autistic students recently in my English classroom at Bonner Springs High School, in USD 204, I was a little surprised at the letter in the Chieftain (July 31) chiding us for sending our autistic students to Kansas City.

- Autism in schools
- August 7, 2008
- My heart goes out to Mr. Stapleton and his family. Misinformation is a dangerous thing. While two years ago, I might have agreed with his belief that children with autism were being bused to Kansas City, Kan., I can tell you as the proud parent of a senior and sophomore, children with autism are in every building in Bonner Springs.

- Autistic outsiders
- July 31, 2008
- One in every 144 children finds themselves in the autism spectrum. Not only do these children find themselves in a world that they can’t understand, but usually they find themselves in a world that doesn’t understand them either.
