Dollie Mae Kuhn, 92, of Shawnee, formerly of Bonner Springs, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 7, 2007 at Sharon Lane Nursing Home in Shawnee,. Private family services will be at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs, with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Bonner Springs Library in care of the funeral home.

The youngest of six children born to Irish immigrant Thomas Barron and Sara Ketner, she was born on June 4, 1915, in Hamilton, Mo. After high school, she entered Central Methodist College, Fayette, Mo., where she earned a degree in music education, graduating in 1937. At Central Methodist College, she met her future husband, Martin Reece Kuhn, whom she married in 1939. After World War II, the Kuhns relocated from Pattonsburg, Mo., to Bonner Springs, in 1945, where he managed a family vegetable canning business and later, the Richardson Corporation plant.

Her life was full of music. She was an accomplished pianist, organist and vocalist. For many years, she taught piano lessons, served as organist and choir director at the Bonner Springs Methodist Church and performed as a vocalist for many programs and services. She was a soloist with the Kansas City Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, as well. In addition, she was a part-time music teacher in one-room schools in Kansas and was a second-grade teacher in the Bonner Springs School District. She also cherished her lengthy membership with the PEO sisterhood.

During the war years, she was blessed with three daughters, who survive her: Martha Marshall, Sun City West, Ariz.; Sara Neimann, Bonner Springs; and Marilyn Brown, Bella Vista, Ark.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reece, who died earlier this year.
