William G. McCannon

William Gerald McCannon, 74, of Basehor, died peacefully Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs. Burial will follow in the Leavenworth Veterans Administration National Cemetery in Leavenworth. The family will receive friends at the visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Basehor United Methodist Church.

Mr. McCannon was born on Sept. 6, 1933, in Kansas City, Mo., and was a lifelong area resident.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was a laborer at Fairbanks Morse in Kansas City, Kan., for nearly 39 years. He was a member of the Basehor United Methodist Church and its men's group, the Basehor United Methodist Men (BUMM). After his retirement he volunteered and worked at Tall Oaks Christian Camp in Linwood.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Laura McCannon, of the home; five children, Carole Humphrey, Platte City, Mo.; David McCannon, Covington, Ga.; Michael McCannon, Atlanta, Ga.; Deborah Mader, Shawnee; and Sheri Elam, Overland Park; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Deanna Spears, Creighton, Mo.
