Janet M. Lashbrook 1928 - 2008 Bonner Springs

Memorial services for Janet M. Lashbrook, 80, of Bonner Springs, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs. Committal of ashes will follow in Bonner Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Lashbrook died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe.
She was born March 20, 1928, in Faribault, Minn., the daughter Margaret and Ted Scott.
Mrs. Lashbrook was a graduate of Faribault High School and the University of Minnesota. She spent her working career as an art educator for the public school system in Fairfax County, Va. While teaching she also attended George Washington University, from which she received a master's degree in education.
While a resident of Falls Church, Va., she enjoyed music, theater, travel and reading. She was a charter member of the Garfield Memorial Christian Church of McLean, Va., and more recently was a member of the First Christian Church in Bonner Springs, both where she enjoyed being a member of the Chancel Choirs. The past 11 years, she was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence, Kan. After losing her sight in 2002 she became an avid talking-book and Audio-Reader patron, as well as a devoted listener to "Prairie Home Companion."
Her husband of 50 years, Lowell S. Lashbrook, died in 2004.
Survivors include a son, Roy Lashbrook, of the home; and two grandsons.
The family will receive friends at the visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Animal Haven, Operation Wildlife, or Kansas Public Radio, sent in care of the funeral home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs, KS 66012.
