James B. Rothwell 1932 - 2009

Lindsborg — Memorial services for James B. Rothwell, 76, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at First Baptist Church, Lindsborg. Burial will take place at the Smoky Hill Cemetery in Lindsborg.
Mr. Rothwell died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, after a long and arduous battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 24, 1932, in Gardener, the son of John and Ethel (Bechler) Rothwell. He graduated from Gardner High School in 1950.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. After the war, he obtained a bachelor of science degree in education at Emporia State University and a master of education from Creighton University
Mr. Rothwell began teaching in 1956 in Clay Center. There he met JoRene Anderson, a fellow teacher. They were married in 1958 in Omaha, Neb. In 1960 they began teaching overseas for the Department of Defense and had four children, all born in foreign countries. He was proud of his Kansas heritage, his duty to the country during war and his 41 years of teaching sighted and unsighted children.
Survivors include his wife, JoRene; four children, Thomas, Longmont, Colo., Lisa Fulcher, Edmond, Okla., Michael, Monument, Colo., and Bradley, Okinawa, Japan; two sisters, Mary Gunther, Gardner, and Rose Patterson, Rantoul; two brothers, John T. and Jerome, Gardner; and 12 grandchildren.
