Johanna Catherin Smiley 1915 - 2009 Concordia, Mo.
Services for Johanna Catherin Smiley, 93, of Concordia, Mo., formerly of Bonner Springs, were Monday, Jan. 12, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Concordia. Graveside services were Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Bonner Springs City Cemetery.
Mrs. Smiley died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at The Lutheran Nursing Home in Concordia.
She was born March 12, 1915, in Pleasant Green, Mo., the daughter of Adolph Waldemar and Cleo Argenbright Eichhorn.
Mrs. Smiley was raised in the Pilot Grove area and was a 1933 graduate of Pilot Grove High School. She then attended Sedalia Business College and Warrensburg Teachers College and taught for four years at Harrison and Boonville country schools.
She spent the past four years in Concordia, previously living for 40 years in Bonner Springs, where she was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the New Hope Key of WSCS. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star, having received her 60 year membership pin, and Bonner Springs Reading Club.
On May 5, 1938, she married Walter Lawrence Smiley. He died in 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Wienberg, Concordia; a son, Walt Smiley, Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two brothers, Albert Eichhorn and Harold Eichhorn, both of Pilot Grove.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Smiley was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy.
