David L. Laffere

Basehor — Mass of Christian Burial for David L. Laffere, 48, of the Basehor area, was Saturday, June 6, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Laffere died in a highway accident Tuesday, June 2, 2009.
He was born Sept. 13, 1960, in Salina, the youngest son of Vernon and Darlene (Duntz) Laffere.
Mr. Laffere graduated from Concordia High School and continued onto Cloud County Community College on a baseball scholarship. David continued his education and graduated with honors from Rockhurst University with a B.S/B.A. in finance/ economics. He also received his M.B.A. in finance from Rockhurst.
At the time of his death, Mr. Laffere was employed by KCP&L as manger of the Fuels Department. Prior to KCP&L he was associated with Panhandle Easter Pipeline Co. He spent his entire career determined to better himself as not only an employee but as a husband, father, and man.
He had a competitive spirit who loved coaching whatever sport was in season, attending choir concerts, and taking interest in every hobby his children ever had. On Aug. 9, 1980, he married Carolyn Engelken. She survives.
Other survivors include four children, Kelly, Melbourne Fla., Eric and his fiancée, Kacie Ellis, Christina and Sarah, all of Basehor; a brother, Mike and his wife, Karan, Basehor; and a sister, Susan Rowden, and her husband, Frank, Iberia, Mo.
The family suggests memorials to Children’s Mercy Hospital or The American Cancer Society, sent in care of Porter Funeral Home and Crematory, 1835 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, KS 66102.
