David Wayne Scheibe 1939 - 2013 Basehor

David Wayne Scheibe, 74, of Basehor, KS, passed away Friday, August 30th at home, surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m., Wed., Sept. 4th at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 15440 Leavenworth Rd, Basehor, KS 66007. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 at the church with a Rosary to be prayed at 11:00. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 126th & Parallel Pkwy, KCK. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carmelite Monastery, 2155 Terry Rd., Jackson, Mississippi 39204 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Dave was born May 21, 1939 in Marysville, KS to Wilbert Thomas and Fern May (Johnson) Scheibe. A long-time KC area resident, Dave married the love of his life, Pat Soptick in St. Joseph’s Polish Church on June 21, 1958. He worked for Owens Corning Fiberglas for over 39 years, retiring in 1998. While there, he was a member of the Union Insulation Production Workers Union #1. Dave was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and was an honorary member of the Holy Angels CWO, helping with many activities, etc. He was a former President of Landlord’s Inc., and was a charter member of the state branch of the TALK organization for landlords. Dave helped out with his daughters’ Camp Fire Girls Group and was a sponsor for many years. He loved cars, collecting model cars, and driving his vintage beauties, he even did a ride along with a Nascar driver for a few laps at 170 mph. Dave loved his best friend and dog Sasha. He loved traveling and the family recently went on an Alaskan cruise in July. He was loved for his sense of humor. He was a handyman and there was no task he couldn't handle. He was always building and creating "THINGS".
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters, Charlene & Colette, and two infant daughters, Rose Marie and Becky Sue.
Dave leaves his wife of 55 years, Pat Scheibe, daughter, Denise Gray of KCK; daughter, Colleen Charlton (Keith) of KCK; son, Wayne Scheibe (Roxanne) of Slidell, LA; daughter, Theresa Lacer of Osceola, MO; daughter, Kathleen Thomas (Jason) of KC, MO; brother, Rick Scheibe and his wife Kay of Topeka; brother, Randy Scheibe and his wife Nellie of Roanoke, TX; as well as thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one more on the way to cherish his memory.
