“I watched it in my government class. I think the President addressed the most important matters. Hopefully our government will start putting these ideas into effect, instead of just discussing them.”

Do you think the people of edwardsville really want to spend money to fix up city hall (so people who pay their tickets don't have to walk around the building and be embarassed), while they are in the process of laying off two firemen. I would much rather know if I had a fire or a medical emergency, firemen/emts would be there right away. I just can't see doing improvements on city hall when you are in process of a budget crunch and have to lay off employees and ask employees to take less days off etc. I heard the mayor does not care that petitions were signed by people in Edwardsville who do not want to lay off their firemen.

Does the city think the residents are stupid? How are they going to say “we are broke and firemen have to be laid off because it” but now that the police need a new building they can take a $500,000 loan at 4% interest which turns out to be $800,000 in debt and think everythings going to be ok. So they are saying let take away from safety so we can build a building….wow thanks city hall for looking out for your residents. What a joke!

We agree with Scarlet Mission that city hall doesn't care about the residents of Edwardsville and that they are a joke . We all so think its time they stopped passing ordinances without having a website to see what their passing , very convenient for the city I'd say .

Are you kidding me?Take a scenic walk down Newton from 4th to 9th and see what you think.(If you can keep from getting run down before you jump to the ditch!)5th and 6th streets are deteriorated to the point of having to slow to 5mph to keep the frontend under your car(5th)or hitting on coming cars (6th).I bet it's fair to say that everyone that thinks this is a good idea, doesn't live on streets that look like these!Oh yeah, while your at it ,get a look at our Edwardsville yard of the month at 507 Newton.Theres nothing like city and hometown pride!!

Who are the owners of 507 Newton and what happened to them anyway??? I called to Realtor to inquire about buying the swing set and they came out and took their sign down about a week later and never called me back! Grrr. So apparently they gave up on them too!……….As far as city hall getting a face lift, I think they look fine and roomy in there when I go into to pay my outrageous trash water and sewer bill that I am forced to pay regardless if I use the service or not! Isn't that illegal? Water and sewer, yes I do use that, but I know that I can get cheaper trash service else where. Edwardsville says they have this contract with Deffenbaugh so that our city is nicer. What a crock of crap!!! I live in the vicinity of 8th and Newton, and have for the last 6 years. I can honestly say that our neighborhood has gone downhill over the last 2 or 3 years. I would rather spend money on fixing our ditches in this area so that the water drains properly and doesn't flood our yards every time we get a “light” rain! (Imagine what heavy rains are doing to us!). And I have to take my child to Bonner Springs or Shawnee to go to a decent park. The play ground equipment at the park is not friendly for 2 year olds. It is impossible for a parent to climb up on the thing with the child clutched in the other arm with out risking both of them from falling off. And has anyone heard of a park without swings!!!!!!!!!! For the last 2 years, I have been asking city hall about this. Their reply: 'we are taking bids'. How freaking expensive is it to go get a damn swing set and put it in the park. Probably could do it for about $200 to $300. (Swings only). Or you can get a wooden one for about a grand. That sounds like a lot better use of our money then fixing up a building so that our incompetent city staff can be “more comfy”. And if they are worried about the people who have to walk around the building to pay their tickets, then perhaps they shouldn't have broke the law in the first place!…..I can't wait to move far away from this city!!!!!!

Oh, and I'd also like to add that most of Edwardsville looks like an overgrown jungle!!!! (Don't believe me, start at Newton and drive down 8th street to Beach.) The trees are horrendous! Perhaps we could use a program like the Bonner Beautiful Commission. I'd rather use my tax money on a committee that actually takes pride in our city and fix it up vs. just fix up city hall!!!

You would think that the Mayor would care about what the city thought and felt but that sure is not the case! You would also think that 800 people signing their name to the fact that they do not want their firemen laid off would send red flags… what do we have to do to get the city's attention?
