‘Mob’ rules: Local group vocal Sporting fans

KANSAS CITY, KAN. — It started right away, the singing. Turned on like a light as soon as the first beer was cracked, a Midwesternized version of “Battle Hymn of the Republic” rang out from a black bus that could have been carrying a crop of convicts. Instead, it was a different type of mob: soccer fans. Specifically, the Mass Street Mob, a rowdy group of fans who call Lawrence home and Sporting Kansas City their team.
Tornado watch issued for much of region

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for much of eastern Kansas, including Douglas, Franklin, Jefferson, Shawnee and Leavenworth counties. The tornado watch is in effect until 5 a.m. Saturday.

Sex crime suspect evades police in Leavenworth County

A man suspected of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old family member in Eudora led four law enforcement agencies on a cross-county chase Monday evening. Darkness halted the manhunt.

While just 1 percent of KU students are declared African and African American studies majors, four players from last season's men's basketball team - 36 percent of the team - majored in that study area.
