A few issues back I wrote a column about a condensed version of the achievements of my granddaughter, Kristi Hoffine, in volleyball, basketball and softball at Bonner Springs High School. In doing this I inadvertently neglected the achievements made by my grandsons is their high school sports. I don’t want to leave them out, especially while reflecting on my family during the holiday season.

The national hype was centered around the Oklahoma-Oklahoma State football game last weekend because of its Big 12 — and possibly national championship — implications, but for my money the far more exciting game was the one between Kansas and Missouri in the Border Showdown.

When the Bonner Springs school district hired Joe Hornbeck as vice principal at Bonner Springs High School they made an excellent choice because they got Joe’s expertise not only as an administrator but also as a former high school football coach with nine years of experience.
