A unit from Fort Leavenworth marches in the 2010 Veterans Day Parade in Leavenworth, one of the largest parades of its type in the United States.

Leavenworth County Sheriff's officials work the scene of a motorcycle accident that occurred about 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, about a mile south of Tonganoxie on U.S. Highway 24-40. The bike's driver, Eldon Barrett of Parker, was taken to Kansas University Hospital by Leavenworth County Emergency Medical Services after the wreck. Barrett lost control of the bike and hit the ditch, which caused the bike to travel about 20 yards before coming to rest, according to two others who were riding with him.

Lansing’s Paige Padgett performs the National Anthem. Paige also has performed at sporting events in Allen Fieldhouse and Arrowhead Stadium, as well as the Kansas Sampler Festival.

A large American flag hangs from a building near VFW Park in Leavenworth. The building’s owner, Jeannie Hazels, had the flag placed on the structure for the event. She donated the land for the park, which is just south of the Leavenworth VFW Post Home in downtown Leavenworth. Jeannie’s late husband, David Hazels, was a retired lieutenant colonel at Fort Leavenworth.
