Heard in Bonner: Stopping for school buses
• Police have been receiving some calls from concerned residents about motorists disregarding traffic laws when it comes to school buses. Several cars reportedly have been going around stopped school buses, a traffic violation that has been a big problem in the past and it seems it is becoming a problem again. The Bonner Springs Police Department has plans to crack down on this in the future; watch for more about this in The Chieftain.
• About 80 Nettleton Manor Apartments residents and guests had a Christmas dinner Thursday evening, organized by the company that owns the apartments, FPD Management, Inc. FPD recognized the city, represented by city clerk Rita Hoag, with a Certificate of Appreciation for Tiblow Transportation Service. Dorothy Klamm of Bonner Springs catered the dinner, as she has for several years. She is a health care food service retiree. Residents also welcomed a new site manager, Myrtle Bailey, who started in mid-November.
• The city is reminding seniors that they can take part in the senior citizen utility rebate program that offers a 20 percent discount on the monthly water and wastewater bills. Those who apply are subject to a maximum annual and maximum monthly water usage. The applicant must fill out a Utility Bill Credit Application and furnish information to establish their eligibility.
