Downtown updates
News and notes from around town. Lots of downtown business updates this week:
• Red Fortune Chinese Restaurant, 117 Oak St., will be closed for business from Sept. 10 through Oct. 1. Several members of the Lui family, owners, will be on vacation during that period.
• You may have noticed that the eastern half of the building at 128 Oak Street is papered over and plans to become EJ’s, a coffee shop and bakery. We’ll have a story once they open, but until then, they are advertising that they’ll provide updates via their Facebook page. Tip – to find the page, search for "EJ’s on Oak."
• The Allegro Children’s Choir will have a ribbon cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10. They recently moved in downtown at the corner of Third and Oak, and I hear parking spots are scarce in the area on the nights they have rehearsals.
• Scarecrows on Parade will take place Sept. 17-Oct. 31 downtown. Residents can join businesses and organizations in creating a scarecrow or a group of scarecrows. Judging will occur Oct. 5; $50 prizes will be awarded in residential, promotion of business, not-for-profit organization, and promotion of alma mater categories. The Best of Show winner will received a $100 prize. I think entry forms are available at City Hall.
