Heard in Bonner: KDOT plans presentation on I-70/K-7 plans

The Kansas Department of Transportation will give a presentation about the plans for the K-7/I-70 interchange to the Bonner city council in a workshop prior the Jan. 9 meeting. The city also will discuss costs it will incur to relocate utilities for the future interchange. KDOT has a public meeting scheduled to cover the same information Jan. 26 at BSHS.

On the agenda for 2012: city staff will soon start gathering specific census data to begin the process to redistrict city wards. Law requires that Congress and states, counties and cities look at population numbers after censuses to make sure wards and districts have equal populations. “If you look at Lei Valley, that’s a pretty big influx alone in that ward,” John Helin, city manager, said at the Dec. 12 council meeting. He also said growth in the Cedar Springs neighborhood may affect ward boundaries.

Not too many people are taking advantage of the new city website’s offering of RSS feeds and email updates. Marcia Harrington, director of community and economic development, tells me there are 10 people signed up for impounded animal notifications, three for pool closings and seven for city news. We may have more information about the benefits of using this service in the paper sometime in the next few weeks.
