Week 9 Predictions (10.31.2014)
Last week: 2-3
Where Mike will be this week: St. James at Bonner Springs
Be sure to follow me on Twitter for updates.
St. James (6-2) at Bonner Springs (6-2) It's unfortunate that only one of these teams will advance to the playoffs. Both have had terrific years. It'll be a battle of a high-octane offense (Bonner Springs) against a stingy defense (St. James). I wish I didn't have to pick a winner, but I think Bonner Springs bounces back from last week's loss.
Bonner Springs 17, St. James 14
Mill Valley (4-4) vs. Turner (3-5) The closest this one will be is at the beginning. Mill Valley should jump out to an early lead. If it gets out of hand like I think it will, MVHS will probably sit its starters in the second half.
Mill Valley 56, Turner 13
SM North (1-6) vs. SM East (8-0) The best team East has played this year is Free State. The Indians are trying to make a statement tonight. They've been playing well these last few weeks. The winner takes the district. At the end of the day, I think the Lancers are a tad better.
SM East 47, SM North 27
SM Northwest (2-6) at SM South (2-6) The Cougars still have a chance to make the playoffs, but they'll need some help from SM West. The Cougars need to win by 20 or more and SM West needs to win by nine or more. It's Halloween, crazy things happen...just like my prediction. Cougs to the playoffs.
SM Northwest 48, SM South 28
Maranatha (1-7) vs. Onaga (5-3) It's been a rough year for the Eagles, but that's to be expected from a team that is in its first year as a KSHSAA program, and they have to battle cross country for athletes. Good news is MCA girls should win 2A state again, and the boys should be near the top in Wamego tomorrow.
Onaga 51, Maranatha 10
