Week 1 (9.5.2014) Predictions
I'm going to try something new starting right now. On Fridays — some time in the afternoon — I'll post my predictions for that night's football games for the five Shawnee schools and Bonner Springs.
Any way, let's get to it.
Mill Valley vs. St. Thomas Aquinas I'll be at this one tonight. Last time these two teams met, MVHS defeated STA 38-6. I see it going a similar way despite Randy Dreiling, former Hutchinson coach, taking over the Saints program.
Mill Valley 45, St. Thomas Aquinas 9
SM Northwest vs. Blue Valley Blue Valley makes the leap from 5A to 6A this year, but I don't think that should be a problem. I just don't see the Cougars topping last seasons 5A state champs.
Blue Valley 38, SMNW 13
SM North at SM South Something has to give in this one. SM North has lost 19 consecutive games, while SM South has lost 14 straight season-opening games. I think North breaks the streak this year, just not tonight.
SM South 28, SM North 27
St. James vs. Pleasant Hill (Mo.) I'm not going to pretend like I know a lot about Pleasant Hill, because I don't, so I'll just give you my prediction.
St. James 31, Pleasant Hill 24
Maranatha vs. Oswego This one is an afternoon kickoff on Saturday. It will be the first game for the Eagles as a KSHSAA sanctioned football program as they enter Class 2-1A. The Eagles have roughly 22 players, but many will play both ways.
Maranatha 20, Oswego 17
Bonner Springs vs. Eudora Out is Jordan Jackson after three successful seasons under center for the Braves, in is Connor Byers, a very athletic, three-sport athlete. While two very different types of players, BSHS should be confident with Byers under center. Eudora enters the year with a new coach at the helm.
Bonner Springs 42, Eudora 24
